Czech Roman Catholic bishop responds to killing of Sviatohirsk Lavra monk
Bishop Tomáš Holub of Plzeň of the Roman Catholic Church responded to the killing of Monk Varsonofiy at Sviatohirsk Lavra. In a reply to the UOJ editorial office in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the Catholic bishop said he had not been aware of the tragedy at the monastery before being contacted by journalists.
“Before your inquiry, I had no information about this tragic event. I offer my prayers for every person whose life has been violently cut short by another human being.”
The Catholic bishop also stressed the need to pray for everyone working to achieve a just peace in Ukraine.
“I pray for all those seeking a just peace in Ukraine, that they may have courage, wisdom, perseverance and resourcefulness.”
Bishop Tomáš Holub concluded his statement by saying:
“I entrust all those who are suffering to God’s mercy.”
As previously reported by the UOJ, a Serbian archimandrite called the killing of the monk in Sviatohirsk a “sin of Cain.”
