Pochaiv Lavra calls for fast ahead of UOC Kyiv Metropolia ban hearing
The Spiritual Council of the Pochaiv Lavra has called on the brotherhood, pilgrims and all believers to spend September 7 and 8 in fasting and intensified prayer ahead of a court hearing on terminating the activities of the Kyiv Metropolia of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The appeal was published on the Pochaiv Leaflet Telegram channel.
The court hearing is scheduled for September 10 and, as the Lavra notes, could affect the future of the holy site.
“We call on everyone – the brotherhood, pilgrims and faithful children of the Church – to offer sincere prayer to the Lord, asking for His mercy and protection,” the Spiritual Council said in its appeal.
Believers were urged to observe a fast and devote themselves to intensified prayer on September 7 and 8, uniting their spiritual efforts in asking God to preserve the Church and the Pochaiv holy site.
“May our common spiritual labor become an offering, so that the Lord may strengthen and preserve His holy Church and our sacred shrine,” the monastery wrote.
As previously reported by the UOJ, more than 10,000 UOC believers submitted statements in defense of the Kyiv Metropolia.
