UGCC head: Our task is to derussify Ukrainians' souls
Head of the UGCC Sviatoslav Shevchuk stated in an interview with LB.ua the need to derussify the souls of Ukrainians.
In a conversation with the journalist, Shevchuk expressed his opinion on the struggle against the UOC and its influence on Ukrainians. "What do we need to do now? Derussify and, I would say, de-Moscowify the conscience and souls of many Ukrainians."
In Shevchuk's opinion, state authorities are wrong to engage in discussions about the liquidation of religious structures. The head of the UGCC believes that in addition to banning the Church, the authorities must influence the minds of Ukrainians.
"It is not enough to simply liquidate some structure. It is not enough to ban something. We must understand that a great struggle is underway for the hearts, minds, and souls of Ukrainians." He emphasized that government bans will not succeed without changing the consciousness of believers.
The UOJ previously reported that a UGCC cleric called UOC parishioners "zombified" and illiterate.
