His Beatitude speaks about newly glorified nun of Florivsky Monastery
On August 31, 2026, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine told the faithful about the spiritual feat of the newly glorified Blessed Nun Olga, who had labored in asceticism at the Kyiv Florivsky Convent. A recording of the sermon was published on the UOC YouTube channel.
That day, the rite of glorification of Blessed Nun Olga was celebrated at the convent. “Today, this holy monastery has witnessed the sacred rite of glorification of a newly revealed saint of God, Holy Blessed Nun Olga, who struggled in this monastery for many years and adorned herself with every virtue and holiness,” the Primate said.
His Beatitude Onuphry noted that Nun Olga undertook a special form of service to God – foolishness for Christ’s sake. “This is the ascetic feat of foolishness for Christ, through which Christians who had attained a high degree of spiritual perfection exposed the pride of this world and called people to humility and eternal salvation,” he stressed.
Speaking about the spiritual meaning of Christian ascetic struggle, the Primate recalled that human life on earth consists of trials. “Through these trials, sorrows and illnesses, the Lord gives us the opportunity to grow spiritually and bear witness to our faith and love for God,” His Beatitude said.
At the end of his sermon, he called on the faithful to pray to Blessed Nun Olga and the Martyrs Florus and Laurus. “May they, standing before the Throne of God, remember us sinners who remain in this earthly vale and each go through our own trials,” the Primate said.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that His Beatitude explained why the death of the Mother of God is called the Dormition.
