The domes, roof, and windows of the Sumy Eparchy’s Presentation Church were damaged in the shelling.

On the night of August 21, 2026, the Presentation Church of the Sumy Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was once again damaged by Russian shelling, the eparchy’s press service reports.

The blast wave damaged the church’s domes and roof and shattered its windows. The Presentation Church is located in Sumy’s so-called Kursk neighborhood, on Peremohy Avenue, and this is not the first time it has been damaged by Russian shelling, as this part of the city regularly comes under attack.

Despite the danger and destruction, the parish community continues to lead an active church life. Prayers are offered at the church for Ukraine’s defenders, for all those affected by the war, and for the coming of a just and blessed peace. The eparchy expressed hope that through joint efforts the damaged church will be restored and parish life will be able to continue in full.

The Sumy Eparchy called on clergy and faithful to intensify their prayers for the Presentation Church parish, its rector and parishioners, as well as for peace and an end to the war.

As the UOJ previously reported, the UOC’s Presentation Church in Sumy was damaged in an earlier Russian shelling attack.
