OCU “hierarch” Yefrem Khomiak took part in the UGCC religious service held during the reburial of Konovalets.

The head of the UGCC led a memorial service during the reburial in Kyiv of Yevhen Konovalets, founder of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, the UGCC press service reports.

The religious ceremony was attended by OCU “hierarch” Yefrem Khomiak, “Bishop of Vasylkiv.” Seminarians of the UGCC Kyiv Three Holy Hierarchs Theological Seminary accompanied the memorial service with singing. After the prayers, Volodymyr Zelensky addressed those present, calling the colonel’s reburial an event of nationwide significance and a restoration of historical justice.

Yevhen Konovalets headed the OUN from its founding in 1929 and is regarded as one of the key figures of the Ukrainian nationalist movement in the first half of the 20th century. He was killed in Rotterdam in 1938 in an assassination organized by Soviet intelligence services.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that Konovalets was temporarily reburied at a cemetery in Kyiv.
