Metropolitan Onuphry comments on Filaret's death
The Primate of the UOC commented on the death of Filaret Denysenko in an interview and called the schism in Ukraine a non-healing wound of church life.
His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry in an interview published on May 15, 2026, commented on the death of the head of the UOC-KP Filaret Denysenko. This was reported by the UOC Information and Educational Department.
The Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church stated that the Church had hoped until the very end for Filaret's repentance, but this did not happen.
"The schism caused by former Metropolitan Filaret still remains a bleeding wound in the church life of Ukraine. But now, when the Lord has called him to eternity, we entrust him to the hands of God's mercy," said the Primate.
As reported by the UOJ, UOC hierarchs initiated a correspondence discussion around Filaret's personality.
