Ministry of Culture seeks UNESCO assistance to preserve a church in Lavra
Ukraine’s authorities have appealed to UNESCO to preserve the Church of All Saints above the Economic Gate.
On February 27, 2026, UNESCO, Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture, and the National Preserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” signed a cooperation document aimed at preserving the All Saints Church in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. This was reported by the National Reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.”
The parties agreed to jointly develop a conservation and restoration plan for the architectural monument, as well as to привлечь experts and funding to carry out the work. The statement does not explain why the Ministry of Culture cannot resolve the issue of preserving a church that is on the state’s balance sheet on its own.
As the UOJ previously reported, UNESCO had earlier included the monitoring of the condition of the Lavra’s buildings in its agenda.
