Protest participants believe that electronic passports pose a risk of total digital dependency.

On November 2, 2025, a protest against the introduction of electronic identity cards took place in the center of Greek Thessaloniki. According to the publication Avgi, about 300 people participated in the event. The organizer was the public organization "United Macedonians".

The participants of the rally expressed concern that digital identification would lead to "complete control over a person's life". In the organizers' statement, it is said that the government "serves the dictates of the new order" and "imposes yet another obligation: that of a personal number.".

"Without having announced anything like this before the election and since the existing model is working, the imposition of the personal number, especially in the hands of a malicious government, can lead us down a dangerous path that could potentially affect areas of our lives in the future such as our transportation, our health, our quality of life, our freedom, etc.," the representatives of the movement stated.

According to the participants, the new documents pose a threat to human rights and carry the risk of total digital dependency. "We are not numbers. We are people with Faith, Freedoms and Soul," the organizers' message says.

The protest took place at the White Tower – one of the central landmarks of Thessaloniki. The police maintained order, and no violations or arrests were recorded.
