Uman authorities and US Embassy urge Hasidim not to travel to Ukraine
American diplomats and representatives of the Uman City Council made a joint statement.
On September 9, 2025, a meeting between Mayor Iryna Pletneva and representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine took place at the Uman City Council. The main topic of the meeting was the preparation for receiving Hasidic pilgrims in Uman. Following the discussion, the parties made a joint statement urging Hasidim to refrain from pilgrimage.
"The city authorities, together with the US Embassy, urge pilgrims to refrain from coming to Uman due to the ongoing armed aggression of Russia against Ukraine," the text states.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Ukraine expects a record number of Hasidim in 2025 - more than 45,000.
