Yurash tells Cardinal Zuppi which issues to address during Russia visit
Ukraine stressed the need for tangible results during the latest stage of the Holy See’s special mission in Russia.
Ukraine’s Ambassador to the Holy See, Andrii Yurash, met with Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, president of the Italian Episcopal Conference, ahead of the cardinal’s visit to the Russian Federation to discuss priorities for the next stage of the Vatican’s special mission.
During the meeting, Yurash and Cardinal Zuppi discussed in detail the issues the Vatican envoy is expected to raise in talks with Russian officials. The Ukrainian diplomat placed particular emphasis on humanitarian issues – the release of prisoners of war, the return of civilians and children, and efforts to step up exchanges.
The Ukrainian side stressed the importance of ensuring that the Holy See’s efforts produce tangible results – reuniting families and obtaining reliable information about people whose whereabouts remain unknown.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Pope's envoy Cardinal Zuppi intends to visit Russia at the end of September to discuss the war in Ukraine.
