“Children who watch cartoons in Russian are degenerates,” journalist says
Kyiv FM journalist Bohdan Butkevych called mothers who let their children watch Masha and the Bear “birdbrained hens” and accused them of turning their children into degenerates.
Kyiv FM journalist Bohdan Butkevych called Ukrainian children whose parents let them watch Russian-language cartoons “degenerates” during a broadcast.
The remark came after activist Maryna Koval described how her children had asked her to read fairy tales to them in Russian at home because their classmates at a Kyiv school did not understand them.
“Yes, you know, I’ll just say this: it was a personal holiday for me when they banned that garbage called Masha and the Bear. And I thought, how many birdbrained hens out there must be wondering what to put on for their little degenerates now?” Butkevych said, emphasizing that he was deliberately using the word “degenerates” to refer to children.
“You walk past a playground, and there it is, speaking Russian. Why are you doing this? Don’t you have any other cartoons? Humanity has come up with this wonderful invention called subtitles. Just turn them on, you stupid animal,” Butkevych said, without explaining whether all children playing on playgrounds are able to read.
The UOJ previously reported that in 2014, Bohdan Butkevych called for the killing of 1.5 million residents of Donbas during a broadcast on Hromadske.TV.
“The most important thing that needs to be done now, however cruel it may sound, is that there is a certain category of people who simply need to be killed,” Butkevych stated then.
