Met. Tychikos' lawyers: He was removed after announcing audit of Metropolis

The legal representatives of former Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos directly link his removal to Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus. According to the office, the hierarch was removed from his see shortly after announcing an audit of the finances of the Paphos Metropolis, which Georgios had headed before Tychikos, UOJ Greece reports.
The document states that Tychikos publicly announced his intention to appoint certified auditors to examine the management of the divisions of the Saint George Hotel and the Minthis Hills complex, connected with the company Pafilia, specifically regarding their contractual obligations to the Paphos Metropolis.
According to the statement, no more than two months later, it was Archbishop Georgios who initiated the procedure to remove Tychikos from the Paphos throne, which took place in May 2025. The lawyers explicitly place the two events side by side.
The authors of the document also connect the credit line to Georgios’s tenure: according to them, a significant portion of the Paphos Metropolis’s debts accumulated while he was Metropolitan of Paphos, while the new loan at an inflated interest rate was arranged by the Archdiocese he now heads.
The document further notes that immediately after Georgios assumed the position of locum tenens of the Paphos Metropolis, he abolished its Financial Council.
The statement separately raises the issue of an unfinished investigation into an official appeal by the acting mayor of Paphos concerning a possible collusion between the Archbishop and the mayor to remove Tychikos.
Metropolitan Tychikos’s lawyers emphasize that their claims concern not the existence of the loans as such, but the high interest rate and the compressed repayment terms – issues to which, they say, the Archdiocese’s Audit Department has still provided no answer.
The document describes Tychikos’s removal as a rapid procedure carried out without an investigative commission, without advance presentation of charges, and without an opportunity for defense, in violation of the Charter of the Church of Cyprus and the sacred canons.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Metropolitan Tychikos had been evicted from the Paphos Metropolis building.
