On November 29, 2025, a mobilized deacon of the UGCC, Orest Cherny, died in a military unit in the Chernivtsi region, as reported on the Facebook page of the Intercession Church in Lviv.
As stated in the text, Cherny was mobilized on November 6 into the 82nd Separate Air Assault Bukovynian Brigade. He died at the age of 46 in the Chernivtsi region, where he was undergoing military training. The causes of death are not specified.
Lviv resident Petro Husak claims that Cherny was abducted on the street on November 7, when he was returning home from service.
"On Zelena Street, he was politely restrained and politely placed in a van by individuals heroically fulfilling their patriotic duty of replenishing the armed forces. As far as I know, he was taken to military units in Yavoriv, Zhytomyr, and finally Chernivtsi. On Saturday morning, he died: the last days he was in intensive care – the official version: bilateral pneumonia, kidney failure, intestinal obstruction. Those who last saw him say: the body was bruised," wrote Husak.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Metropolitan Longin reported his son’s detention by the TRC and demanded his release.
