On the feast of the Bar Icon of the Mother of God, Metropolitan Varsonofiy of Vinnytsia and Bar celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Bar Convent of the Vinnytsia Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the eparchy reports.

The hierarch was joined by the eparchial secretary, district deans, clergy of the Bar Deanery, and visiting priests from other eparchies. Praying at the service were Abbess Dimitria (Filikova) of the Bar Convent, Abbess Antonia (Stetsenko) of the Holy Trinity Brailiv Convent, the monastic sisters, and numerous parishioners and pilgrims.

During the augmented litany, the clergy and faithful offered special petitions for peace in Ukraine, for the soldiers, and for all the God-loving Ukrainian people. Following the Liturgy, clergy and faithful held the traditional procession around the convent, with readings from the Holy Gospel and the sprinkling of the faithful with holy water.

At the conclusion of the festive service, Metropolitan Varsonofiy addressed those gathered with an archpastoral message and congratulated Abbess Dimitria, the convent’s sisters, clergy, and pilgrims on the feast of the wonderworking Bar Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos. The hierarch expressed the hope that the Mother of God would protect all the Ukrainian people under her grace-filled omophorion.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that thousands of believers in Bukovyna honored the Boyany Icon of the Mother of God.
