Dormition of Most Holy Theotokos celebrated at Pochaiv Lavra

On August 27–28, 2026, solemn Divine services were held at the Holy Dormition Pochaiv Lavra on the occasion of its patronal feast – the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, reports the monastery's press service.

Thousands of pilgrims from various eparchies of Ukraine arrived in Pochaiv for the services. Many of them came on the eve in a procession. The faithful covered hundreds of kilometers with prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos.

The celebrations for the patronal feast began in the first half of the day on August 27. After the late Divine Liturgy, a prayer procession was held with the Shroud of the Mother of God from the Dormition Cathedral to the Transfiguration Cathedral.

In the evening, an All-Night Vigil with an Akathist to the Dormition of the Mother of God was served at the Transfiguration Cathedral.

During Matins, the faithful who had come to the Lavra for the celebrations could venerate the Shroud of the Mother of God. Priests anointed them with holy oil.

The Divine Liturgy on the day of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, August 28, was led by Metropolitan Serhiy of Ternopil and Kremenets.

He was co-served by hierarchs of the UOC, the abbot of Pochaiv Lavra Metropolitan Volodymyr, the brotherhood and guests of the monastery in holy orders.

As the UOJ reported, the Holy Dormition Sviatohirsk Lavra celebrated its patronal feast.
