Three UOC churches damaged by shelling in Kherson

On the morning of August 19, 2026, the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, Russian forces carried out an artillery strike on Kherson, as a result of which three churches of the Kherson Eparchy of the UOC were damaged, as reported in a post on the eparchy's Telegram channel.
According to the eparchy, a shell struck the territory of the Dormition Cathedral, causing significant damage to the main entrance — the façade of the church was damaged and windows were blown out.
Another shell exploded on the territory of the Greek-Sophia Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God, shattering windows and damaging the church wall. A direct hit was also recorded on the grounds of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Monastyrek area, where windows were shattered and the building’s facade was damaged.
As the UOJ previously reported, the Intercession Church in Stanislav, Kherson region, was earlier damaged by Russian shelling.
