Islamists kill 24 Christians in overnight attack on Nigerian community

On August 18, at least 24 people were killed and three others wounded in an overnight attack on a Christian community in Nigeria’s Plateau State, International Christian Concern (ICC) reports.
The attack was carried out by armed militants from among Fulani herders, who struck the community in the early morning hours. After the attack, local residents found the bodies of 24 slain Christians, while three wounded people were taken to hospital. The victims were buried later that same day.
Local authorities confirmed the attack and condemned the killings. The governor ordered increased patrols and surveillance in areas where further attacks remain a threat. Law enforcement agencies, however, have not yet officially identified those responsible.
A representative of the local Christian community said the massacre had been preceded by other attacks. Armed groups had set fire to homes and farm buildings, destroyed crops and assaulted local residents.
Christians in the region link the continuing violence to attempts to seize their land. Community representatives called on the authorities to strengthen protection for the population and bring the organizers and perpetrators of the attacks to justice.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Muslim Fulani killed 31 Christians in Nigeria.
