Pope Leo XIV renews call to end war in Ukraine

Pope Leo XIV has renewed his call for an end to the war in Ukraine. The pontiff pointed to the rising number of civilian casualties and called for an end to strikes on civilian targets, Reuters reports.
Ahead of the gathering of the faithful for Sunday prayer, the head of the Roman Catholic Church drew attention to the tragic consequences of the ongoing hostilities. He stressed that innocent people in both Ukraine and Russia are being killed and wounded as a result of the armed conflict.
“Tragic incidents are multiplying, causing an ever-growing number of civilian victims, including children,” Pope Leo said. “I renew my heartfelt appeal for international humanitarian law to be respected and for attacks against civilian targets to cease on both sides.”
As previously reported by the UOJ, the pope called Europe’s growing military spending a betrayal of diplomacy.
