Police officers in England invited to observe Ramadan fast in solidarity

Police officers in England's West Midlands have been encouraged to fast during Ramadan regardless of their religious beliefs, The Telegraph reported on August 1.
The initiative is being supported by the National Association of Muslim Police and aims to help officers better understand the significance of Ramadan for their Muslim colleagues while fostering a more inclusive workplace culture.
The guidance also notes that Muslim officers are offered flexible working arrangements during Ramadan, allowing them to spend more time with their families. It further states that each year a growing number of non-Muslim officers voluntarily choose to join the fast as a gesture of solidarity.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stressed that participation in the initiative is entirely voluntary. According to the spokesperson, in a region home to around 570,000 Muslims, it is important for police officers to understand the significance of Ramadan for the local community.
The Telegraph reports that similar initiatives are being considered for other public-sector institutions across the UK.
