U.S. House blocks all aid to Nigeria over persecution of Christians

The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to completely block financial aid to Nigeria over the persecution of Christians, Premium Times Nigeria reports.
The lower chamber of the U.S. Congress approved the fiscal year 2027 spending bill by a vote of 217–209. Under the legislation, Washington will withhold all assistance to Nigeria until it is confirmed that Christian communities in the country are safe.
The bill initially provided for withholding 50% of the funds, but lawmakers approved an amendment suspending 100% of the financing so as not to reward a government that is unable to protect its own citizens.
The tougher measure was proposed by Republican Congressman Greg Steube.
“American taxpayers should NEVER bankroll governments that turn a blind eye while Christians are abducted, tortured, and murdered.,” the lawmaker said.
As previously reported by the UOJ, Nigeria unveiled its first monument to Christians killed by Islamists.
