Patriarch Porfirije opens exhibition about Saint Sava in Belgrade

Patriarch Porfirije (Perić) opened the historical exhibition "Saint Sava" at the Gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Belgrade on May 14, 2026. This was reported by the UOJ in Serbia citing the press service of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

In his address, the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) noted that the name of Saint Sava unites the spiritual, cultural and historical tradition of the Serbian people. According to him, the exhibition demonstrates the continuity of church heritage from medieval shrines and manuscripts to contemporary church art. He particularly emphasized the significance of the relics brought from Hilandar as testimony to the connection between Mount Athos, the SOC and the Serbian people.

The ceremony was attended by hierarchs gathered for the session of the Assembly of Bishops, the abbot of the Hilandar Monastery, representatives of the Serbian government, diplomats, scholars and guests from Greece. The organizers announced that the exhibition, prepared by the Museum of the SOC, will run from May 15 to July 19, 2026.

As the UOJ reported, Patriarch Porfirije consecrated the memorial center of Saint Nicholas in Serbia. The theme of the SOC Primate's ministry and church-cultural initiatives in Serbia regularly remains at the center of attention of both church and public agenda.

The exhibition is dedicated to the 850th anniversary of the birth of Saint Sava (Rastko Nemanjić), the first archbishop of the autocephalous Serbian Church. The exhibition features icons, manuscript monuments and relics of shrines connected to the Hilandar Monastery.
