Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus delivered a sermon on the topic "Christ is the true Messiah, and His Church is the new Israel of grace" as a response to a rabbi's video, reports the UOJ in Greece.

In his address, the hierarch of the Church of Greece thoroughly examined Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah and presented theological arguments in favor of Jesus Christ being their fulfillment. The metropolitan also pointed out that the Church of Christ is the "new Israel of grace" – the spiritual continuation of the Old Testament chosen people.

Metropolitan Seraphim's video address is presented as a comprehensive response to the position of a Jewish rabbi who spoke on the topic of messianism from the perspective of Judaism. The hierarch called for viewing Old Testament prophecies as a direct indication of the person of Jesus Christ.

As the UOJ reported, a UOC archimandrite pointed out that Christ did not create a "Jewish" Church, although He was a Jew by birth. The topic of Christianity-Judaism relationship, as well as the question of the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies, remains a subject of theological discussions in the Orthodox world.
