Court again extends preventive measure for Metropolitan Theodosiy

On April 13, 2026, the Sosnivka District Court of Cherkasy held another hearing in the case of Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv, who is being prosecuted by the authorities under several criminal articles. The judge ruled to extend the hierarch’s preventive measure in the form of a personal recognizance obligation for 60 more days, Suspilne Cherkasy reported from the courtroom.

Prosecutor Vadym Kolomiiets insisted that the restrictions remain in place, claiming that “the risks continue to exist.” According to the prosecution, the metropolitan could allegedly go into hiding, continue to “commit crimes,” or influence witnesses. At the same time, the prosecutor presented no new facts to justify the need for such measures at this stage of the proceedings.

The metropolitan’s defense called the prosecution’s arguments formulaic and unfounded. Attorney Tamara Hrydenko told the court that the prosecution’s claims were virtually identical to those set out in its previous motions and amounted to little more than “subjective opinion.” “At this stage, the prosecution has exhausted its evidence; all witnesses and the expert linguist have already been examined,” the defense lawyer said.

Another attorney, Volodymyr Yudin, added that over three years of proceedings the hierarch had not committed a single violation of his procedural obligations, which in itself refutes the claim that he intends to abscond.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that the court had extended Metropolitan Theodosiy’s preventive measure for another two months.
