On March 19, 2026, the first official iftar – the evening meal for Muslims after daytime fasting during the month of Ramadan – took place in the building of the German parliament reports the NIUS outlet.
The event was held with the participation of representatives of the parliamentary party "The Greens". A reception was organized as part of the evening, and communal prayers were conducted, with men and women praying separately.
The organizers stated that holding the iftar was a response to what they consider insufficient presence of Islam in public life. At the same time, attention was drawn to the participation of organizations that receive state funding and are connected to religious activities.
According to sources, among the participants were structures receiving significant funds from the budget, which sparked discussion about the use of taxpayer money to support such initiatives.
It is also noted that the event was not included in the parliament's official calendar. Against this backdrop, there is discussion of a broader course toward expanding the role of religious institutions in the country's public life.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Islamists in the EU declared the beginning of war against synagogues.
