In July 2023, at the front in the Zaporizhzhia direction, the son of a priest of the Chernihiv Eparchy of the UOC, serviceman Heorhii Koptyl, was killed. According to the eparchial press service, for a long time he had been considered missing in action.

The hierarchs, clergy, and faithful of the eparchy expressed their sincere condolences to the family of Archpriest Ioann Koptyl over the death of his son.

“May the Merciful Lord grant rest to the soul of the warrior Heorhii in the heavenly dwellings, and grant strength to his family in this time of sorrow,” the statement says.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that servicemen honored a cleric of the Sumy Eparchy of the UOC.
