On December 24, 2025, on the eve of the celebration of Christmas according to the new style, a 7-meter didukh was placed on Maidan Nezalezhnosti, reports the head of the Public Council at the Kyiv City State Administration Hennadiy Kryvosheya.

The installation was agreed with the Kyiv mayor, Vitaliy Klitschko.

"The didukh, unlike the borrowed Christmas tree, is a traditional pre-Christian symbol of ancient Ukrainians, symbolizing the spirit of ancestors, prosperity, the connection of generations, and the future harvest," stated Kryvosheya, and immediately added that the didukh "is an integral part of the celebration of the Nativity of Christ".

According to him, Ukrainians installed the didukh in the red corner, near the icons, "as a symbol of the family, and comfort".

The didukh on Maidan was installed next to the Jewish menorah.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that, according to Stefanchuk, shifting Christmas and other church dates is a matter of ideology.
