In Canada, every 20th death is due to euthanasia, report says

At the end of November 2025, the Ministry of Health of Canada reported in a document on "medical assistance in dying" that the number of deaths from euthanasia in 2024 was 16,499, according to Christian Daily. This accounts for 5.1% of deaths in the country and exceeds the figures of previous years.
The report indicates that 75.5% of people who sought euthanasia cited "loss of independence" as a reason, and 48.5% felt they were a burden "to family, friends, or caregivers".
The organization Right to Life UK is concerned that the majority of deaths from euthanasia are caused not by medical indications but by increasing social and psychological vulnerability. People experiencing these difficulties "need support and love", notes the organization's spokesperson Catherine Robinson, "not despair and premature death".
Since the legalization of euthanasia in Canada in 2016, 76,475 deaths from "medical assistance in dying" have been recorded.
From March 2027, euthanasia will also become legal for people with mental health issues.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Canada will exclude religious beliefs from from hate speech laws.
