Mass held in Rome for LGBT Catholics

On September 6, 2025, a jubilee Mass for LGBT Catholics was celebrated in the Roman church Chiesa del Santissimo Nome di Gesù (“Church of the Most Holy Name of Jesus”), gathering more than 1,200 people. The Mass was led by Bishop Francesco Savino, vice-president of the Italian Bishops’ Conference. This was reported on Facebook by James Martin, consultant to the Vatican Secretariat for Communications.
In his homily, Savino declared that “the time has come to restore dignity to everyone, especially those who have been denied it.”
Savino also stated that after he announced the Mass to Pope Leo, the Pope told him: “Go, celebrate the Mass with them!”
James Martin reported that, on the eve of the Mass, he had a private audience with Pope Leo, who promised to “continue the same course of openness and hospitality that Pope Francis had pursued” toward LGBT Catholics.
“This is a very encouraging sign that the chosen direction will be maintained,” Martin said.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that, according to Cardinal Joseph Zen, the merciful God hates homosexuality.
