Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Pope Leo for the call to end the war and urged Russia to cease military actions.

"We fully share His Holiness’s call for an immediate ceasefire and urge Russia to take real steps to end the killing and enable diplomacy," Zelensky wrote.

He stated that "Russia must end the war it began and refuses to end.".

"It is critical that everyone in the world who values human life puts pressure on Moscow to force it to end terror and engage in a meaningful peace process instead,"  Zelensky noted.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Pope Leo, speaking about Ukraine, called on "those responsible" to "abandon the logic of weapons and choose the path of negotiations and peace". In his message, the pontiff did not specify that he meant only the Russian side.
