On August 20, 2025, the vicar of the Khust Eparchy, UOC, Bishop Mark of Rakhiv performed the rite of monastic tonsure at St. George's Monastery in the village of Kryva in Transcarpathia, as reported by the eparchy's press service.
Novice Georgiy Lalo took monastic vows with the name Anthony, in honor of Venerable Anthony of the Caves, the founder of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
"The prayers of the monastery brethren and all those present were offered to the Lord for the newly tonsured monk Anthony, that the Lord may strengthen him on the path of spiritual endeavor," the message says.
The tonsure was performed with the blessing of Metropolitan Mark of Khust and Vynohradiv.
As reported by the UOJ, the first monastic tonsure was performed in the Western European vicariate of the UOC.
