During a meeting with the new ambassador to Sweden, Svitlana Zalishchuk, the head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, spoke of the special role of the UGCC.
“The UGCC is the only Ukrainian Church that unites the global Ukrainian community,” Shevchuk stated, emphasizing the importance of developing partnership between the UGCC and the state.
The head of the UGCC spoke about the current confessional status of Ukrainians in Sweden, where up to 70,000 Ukrainians reside. According to Shevchuk, they are served by three UGCC priests under the jurisdiction of the Apostolic Exarchate in Germany and the Scandinavian countries.
Shevchuk wished the new ambassador that “Ukraine would appear to her as it truly is,” and assured her that the UGCC would stand by her “for the good of the Ukrainian people.”
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Shevchuk had called on the Ukrainian authorities to fight against UOC communities abroad.
