Fr. Sebeos Galachyan, rector of the Armenian Church of the Holy Savior (Surb Amenaprkich) in Nizhny Novgorod, refused to allow Narek Grigoryan, a deputy from the “Civil Contract” party, to become a godfather due to his attitude toward the Church. This was reported by eadaily.com.
Fr. Sebeos Galachyan declined to perform the Sacrament of Baptism and proposed that the child’s parents choose another godfather.
According to the priest, anyone involved in attacking the Church and the Armenian Catholicos Karekin II has no right to become a godparent.
According to Armenian media, Narek Grigoryan left the church angrily, cursing and threatening the priest.
As previously reported by the UOJ, the Armenian Church had earlier warned the authorities of a possible anathema.
