Mayor of Chernivtsi claims cathedral and other UOC churches belong to OCU

The mayor of Chernivtsi, Roman Klichuk, claims that the Holy Spirit Cathedral of the UOC, as well as the churches on Ruska and Storozhynetska Streets, are registered under the OCU. In his speech during a press conference on July 2, 2025, Klichuk stated that such a decision was made by the "meeting of parishioners," reports the promin.cv website.
"Speaking of the three churches, the Cathedral, the churches on Storozhynetska and Ruska. The meeting of parishioners took place in a lawful manner, they voted, and these cathedrals are registered today under the Orthodox Church of Ukraine."
According to him, it is now up to law enforcement agencies or courts.
"I believe that we all together must do everything to ensure the rule of law. If they are officially related to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, then they should belong to the OCU," the official stated.
He also added that local authorities "long ago terminated land use agreements with all churches related to the Moscow Patriarchate".
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that in Chernivtsi, under the cries of "Death to enemies!" unknown individuals "transferred" three UOC churches to the OCU.
