LGBT marches and propaganda banned in Chișinău

On May 15, 2025, marches, demonstrations, and LGBT propaganda were officially banned within the territory of Chișinău. The announcement was made by Chișinău Mayor Ion Ceban on his Telegram channel.
“Marches, demonstrations, and LGBT propaganda are now banned in Chișinău. Councilors from the PAS (the ruling ‘Party of Action and Solidarity’ – Ed.) left the session in protest,” wrote the mayor, following Wednesday’s city council meeting.
According to sociologists, the majority of Moldovan citizens (approximately 85%) oppose the legalization of same-sex marriages and support the preservation of traditional moral and ethical values.
Since 2022, the Orthodox Church of Moldova has repeatedly appealed to the authorities to ban LGBT marches and festivals. Church representatives have noted that such events often lead to clashes between supporters and opponents, which are typically halted only after police intervention.
As previously reported by the UOJ, an LGBT festival and pride parade are scheduled to take place in Kyiv on Pentecost.
