Metropolitan Onuphry expressed his hope that a time will come when all Christians can live in love for one another and for God.

In his sermon on the Feast Day of the Great Martyr George the Victorious, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry explained that the saint is a protector of all people engaged in spiritual struggle against the devil, reports the UOC Information and Education Department.

“We pray to the Great Martyr George the Victorious as the patron of the military, that he may strengthen our soldiers in their victory over the enemy,” he said.

As the Primate of the UOC noted, the Holy Great Martyr George is not only a helper to warriors on the battlefield but also the main protector for those who wage spiritual warfare against the devil – “the sower of all lies, deceit, and evil.”

“We ask that St. George the Victorious help us, too, to overcome the devil, to defeat those who wage war against us, so that peace may reign in our land,” His Beatitude stressed.

Metropolitan Onuphry also wished that the time would soon come when all Christians can “live in love for one another and God, glorify Him with their lives, their words, and their thoughts, and become heirs to the grace that the Lord brought to earth through His glorious Resurrection.”

As previously reported by the UOJ, His Beatitude celebrated the Liturgy at the Church of St. George the Victorious in the capital.
