Trump orders transgender offenders to be sent to male prisons
U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered that transgender women convicted of crimes serve their sentences in male prisons, The New York Times reports.
According to the publication, federal prisons have received the relevant directive from the head of state.
The document is part of an executive order issued by Trump on his first day in office, aimed at limiting the state's recognition of gender to the one assigned at birth.
Advocates for the rights of transgender individuals and inmates criticized the order, stating that it will put them in danger.
As previously reported, Trump signed an executive order rescinding gender policy initiatives.
